Feb. 7th

{Sigh.}

I had a really, really lovely birthday over the weekend.

For many years, my own birthday hasn't been that big of a deal. Which has been fine, but I was always aware that it could be different. More special. More memorable. More of an event.

This year, it was.

From my favorite Sunday morning breakfast with my boys, to the best handmade gift ever from Kalen, to the picture-perfect release of my birthday hot air balloon (a new tradition with us), to my first ever surprise party with some of my closest friends, everything was wonderful, special, and just the ideal way to begin my 33rd year of life. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who had a hand in it. I loved it! And thanks especially to Josh, who went to great lengths to ensure my day was unforgettable. So sweet.

I'll be back soon with recipes (the pancakes are easy, the Black Forest Cake is mostly-easy but time-consuming), but for now will leave you with some (well, okay, lots of) images of the day.

Doesn't that all just look fabulous?

  1. You had a surprise party?? I called mom to see what was going on and she said she would call me back if she found out anything, but I never got a call back from her. =[

  2. Your birthday sounds amazing, I am so impressed!! From someone who has always put lots of stock in birthdays (my own and everyone elses), I say well done!! How was the party? Wish I could have been there but was definitely thinking of you across the miles. And the food looks amazing as ever! Happy 32!!

  3. Oh Hay, I wish you had been there! I told Josh that the only thing that would have made it better would have been to have you there, too. :( Apparently, he thinks of you as my sister, but not my peer (it was a girlfriends-not-family, no kids invited thing). I haven't spoken to Mom since then, so I don't know if she knew about it . . .

    And thanks, Nand! One of these years we'll get to spend birthdays together again, I'm sure of it! :)

  4. Tara, I feel so lucky to have been part of your birthday. I saw Carie a couple of days ago and we both said how nice it was to sit and eat with you and your friends. What a great meal!! And the cake was so good... Thank you for sharing your special day. I'm so glad it was a great day for you and I hope it is a sign that this year is going to be great for you and Josh and your sweet boys.
